very glad you caught this one Craig
People that scam like this are scum.
I agree with not taking personal or business checks. A guy I did side jobs for had a big check bounce about 1 week after I deposited. Boy was I upset.
Official Bank Check is the most negotiable. It's drawn upon the Bank branch's own account. Not an customer's account. Costs a few bucks for buyer to get one.

What did you want for it?
Employee stock purchase program is coming up here in the next few days, and I am thinking that combined with the last one and a small personal loan... Who knows.
Then I would need to figure out something for mine. Anybody want to buy a 74 green in need of some work? A little more playing with the carb and it is ready to go anywhere in the country as long as A/C isnt needed.
Which reminds me, that one doesnt have A/C does it?

Wow, 45 minutes into our 3rd quarter earnings anouncement and my stock purchase program isnt going to get me much of anything.
Still interested in knowing what your goal is to get for the REPU.
thanks

That purchase scam is everwhere...
While my Bronco was posted on auto trader, I had a guy try to pull the same thing- I was asking $5900, he wanted to send me a check for $10k, refund the balance to his "client". I knew it was bullshit right off, especially when I got another email saying he was glad that I had agreed (I never emailed him back about that), then the "problem" on his end- something about his bank requiring I send them my account info for direct deposit. Sure, let me get that for you....
The seller I got my Suzuki RE-5 from this weekend had the same thing happen to him with the bike. Funny things is, it was only advertised on rotaryrecycle.net- Sam's site! I think the people running these scams use bots that scan the net for want/sale ads and automatically generate email inquiries, as some of them are vague statements with the obligatory broken english "I would very like much to purchase you item for sales", etc.

Whatever happened to cash and a handshake????
Internet is a great source of information but another source of crime. Guess it's "seller beware" now.

Everyone beware, all the time...
Sad but true: As my friend is fond of phrasing it, the rotary 'community' itself has more than it's share of outright 'charlatans'... Then there's all the non-rotary-community con games...
Sure 'nuf, checks are worthless pieces of paper... just try asking your favorite bank after how long a time one can no longer be returned... (!)
Nowadays, thay won't even help you out to try and collect... due to 'privacy rules'... and it won't hel;p to inform them that there no longer is any such thing, post 9-11 and post-Patriot Act...
(Only if you're IRS, CIA, or Dept. of Homeland Insecurity I guess!)
Now, about trust, handshakes, and cash/check/credit transactions: It really does go both ways, doesn't it? I mean, an unscrupulous seller can as easily take off with the dough, and the buyer gets screwed, just as the other way 'round...
Moral (?): Some are only in it for the money--and it doesn't matter who or what's involved.
...and that's just sad.
