Electrical delima

OK. I have an electrical problem. On the way to work the other day I was crossing some railroad tracks and boom. NO power. The engine died and would not start. Turned the key nothing, no click, nothing. Radio still on. Coasted into a nearby driveway and popped the hood. Fuel pump fuse is blown. OK I replace it with the one from the wipers. Start the truck and go to work. It dies at the gate to work and I have to crank it to cross under the gate, but now its cranking just won't run unless the starter is turning. I thought it was the ignition switch, had the wife bring me a new one from the NOS pile of parts. Changed it and started home, everything is going fine till I hit a bump and dead again, only this time on the side of the Interstate at 12 midnight, Friday night. Well I finally got it going again, another fuse from the cig lighter, and limped home being very careful about bumps. Well now I've had 3 days to check and look for things grounding out and I can't find anything. The wiring diagrams that I have come up with all appear that the fuse for the fuel pump also has a low pressure fuel cut switch on it, does anyone know where that is. Does anyone else know of or has anyone else had a similar problem. I've looked for places where the wires go thru the body, nothing. The wiring has been somewhat chopped, I think someone had a alarm system on it at one time. The starter has a Ford solenoid on it for some reason. But the wiring is all in good shape and good connectors. Nothing really looks rigged. If someone has a good wiring diagram and can verify that the fuse that feeds the fuel pump only has leads to the voltage regulator and the low fuel cut valve I would appreciate it.

i'd check for loose or shorting power wire from ignition switch to the + alt wire. Also pull all the electrical tape off the harness around the fuse box and start searching.

if you're up to it, i replaced the + alt wire with fat 6 gauge. from alt to battery. And the ignition to + alt and fuse box to + alt with bigger wire. Better charging and got to look at and clean up wiring at the same time.....

Happy times

OK, I think I'm back on the road. Tonight I decided I was going to fix it come H_LL or high water. Well I put the truck in the garage out of the rain. Dried it off so it wouldn't be dripping in my face when I got under it and got the Digital volt meter out. Now I think I am looking for a ground or a place where it grounds out when I hit a bump. Nothing suspisious anywhere. I pulled every connector loose that I could find trying to clear the 8 ohm ground on that lead. I can't change it for nothing. Then my neighbor comes over and wants to know whats going on. So I get him to watch the meter while I hook everything back up and nothing changes the reading. Finally I say let me move some wires under the dash. He see's the meter change. Ok so I take the emergency brake off and now he sees and open or nearly an open. So now we start hooking everything up and we notice resistance everytime we hook another part up. This is all good now. So we get everything hooked up and I really haven't found a problem. So I start it up and start moving wires under the dash, no change, under the truck, no change, fuel pump, no change, then he touches the fuse block and it dies. Well now I think we are on to something. Started it back up and he moved the wire and it dies again. Without starting it he moves the wire and I can hear the fuel pump quit and start up. Turns out I took the fuse block off and bead blasted it clean, cleaned all the fuses and put some electically friendly oil on it to keep it from oxidizing. Now every thing works like its suppose to and I took it for a test drive over a very bumpy road. Still running. Even the lights don't dim when I hit the brakes. All this time I thought it was my altenator going bad. I'll let everyone know if it fails again. End of Story.
