autocrossed yesterday
handled must better. did not have massive understeer it used to have. what was new? Put all new ball joints, tie rods, and bushings (except for lower a-arm bushings).
And...
Several weeks ago, after lowering my front end, it increased positive camber and negative caster. Exactly what I didn't want. Pulled all the alignment shims out of upper a-arms. Which gave me negative camber....Which also took away my caster.
So...
This weekend I adjusted caster by moving the upper a-arms all the way back, by turning the adjuster rod on upper a-arm. Very cool. This increased positive caster and only took away a little bit of negative camber. Front end sets firm and solid now when cornering. Steering wheel now unwinds back to center after I go thru a corner. Before it only unwound like 1/4 turn.
Now I just need to set the toe.
Turned a best 1:21 on the autocross course. A 944 did 1:17, Mazda 3 wagon 1:16 so I'm not that slow.

Way to go, Brad! Good for you... and the rest of us, too. Thanks for doing your 'pioneering' suspension work!

some info on autocrossing repu
I talked to a person who autocrossed his turbo REPU in norcal, came in 2nd in the OSP class against Vipers and supercharged Cobra's. His buddy's REPU took 4th. Local rag said OSP is only for vehicles that can haul a bail of hay in the back ;)
Here is some insight gleaned, first 3 had biggest impact:
LSD from 3rd gen can fit and u need it. no more inside rear tire spinning thru corners
A 1:1.5 steering quickener from summitracing.com *really* helped it move around the cones and made the front end controllable. Made it 1.666 turns of steering wheel lock to lock. needed an adaptor plate made but no biggie.
Get some sticky tires and lightweight rims.
900lb front springs made front body roll not an issue at all; more controllable front end. http://coilsprings.com/ has the specs, just call
alignment: remove all the adjusting shims and dial in 0* toe
front sway bar can be purchased from ADDCO or use a big aftermarket 1st gen one, cut 3" off each end, heat the ends and put in your hydraulic press to flatten each end. Drill hole in ends and install.
traction bars on rear suck and were promptly removed
tried many different leaf springs, including add-a-leaf and leaf packs from other trucks but eventually went back to the stock REPU leaf setup. stock worked best and at 312lbs not much body roll.
no rear bar or lateral axel locator tried.
a duck call on the turbo blow off valve gets attention and smiles ;)
That's it, now get out there and dodge some cones!
