Paint codes (mixcode)

Hi.

I have a Blue 74 REPU. What is the paint code, name and mixcode(if you have it)?

I am painting mine.

Also, is the white stripes just a sticker, or is it paintet? Is there anyone who has made cutting files for the REPU stickers? I have a friend with a sticker-cutter.

The "ROTARY POWER" emblem in the back, is it supposed to be all white, or is it blue along the outher edges(-it is on mine).

Many questions, but I want to make my REPU as stock looking as possible.

Thank you.

There were several...

...different blues. The stickers are just that, not paint. There is indeed an outline around the letters; the colors varied with the particular paint/decal combo's, I think... Dunno about your sticker cut info/files, but juan at www.vintagerotarydecals.com probably has them...

I think to recall a thread around here *somewhere* with all the details about paint codes/combo's, not to mention the sticker details...

I do know for a fact that there was quite a variety of different stripe combo's applied to and sold on REPU's over those few years! How much of that was dealer-done, I'm not certain...

WOW. I have had "impure thoughts"

Hi guys.

I must admit I had some "impure thoughts". I thought this forum was kinda slow on replies. I will eat my corner seals in shame, as this was the fastest answer I ever seen on ANY forum. And so detailed and spot on. Thank you, thank you, thank you (*-bowing down on my knees).

I have looked at the truck, but there is no sign of the sticker with the letters for paintcode. It should be on the left side in the engine room, right?

Here is a link to my truck (with pics). Have a look, and see what color you think it is.

We are doing the complete truck. Would you guys consider it a HUGE no-no to paint it other than stock? I am thinking about a new really deep blue metalic, and maybe some very descrete striping or effects proper for a Mazda REPU. Not like the movie "Grease", but something not caught by a first glance, but is "down there" somewere.

What do you think?

Thank you again for your posts.

Sorry for the delay...

...I was out-of-town on biz,(and pleasure). Not a 'huge' no-no --if you don't care about factory-stock resto/value... Personally, I think there are some really nice, classy newer colors out there... it's really a matter of personal preference, and true-to-original restoration vs. mods/modernization. Your call!

Hi.

Thank you for your post.

I decided on running stock color, but can anyone familiar with the different colors look at the photo, and see what color name mine is?

Hmmm...

Looking at the truck, it looks like Phoenix Blue (same as my '74) in one shot, but looks like Skyish Blue ( a later color) in another, so maybe Mercury Blue, but I have not seen a truck that color in person, so I'm not certain. Guys? Thoughts?

Thanks Neal

Hi all.

The color Skyish blue, is not in 74', is it?

I think we'll spray a sample phoenix blue, and see if it's a match.

If anyone has any input, please post. Maybe spraying this weekend... :-)

Have a nice day.

Btw, seen this post at the rx7club.com forum? I posted it yesterday : http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=405055

I thought it was Phoenix Blue but after seeing all those codes Klaus posted I'm not sure. I had a Phoenix Blue REPU but from your photos it looks like Phoenix Blue has a little more yellow in it, more of a turqouis, very cool color. I have an old quart of Phoenix Blue Dupont enamel and some reducer etc you can have if you can pick up in Sacramento, not sure where your're at.

I didn't post all those codes...

...but by those pics, it looks like your truck is a very nice match to the one I sold Neal (kansei).

I don't know, but I would guess that old cans of original paint might have aged (changed) chemically in some manner since the mid '70's...

Of course, you've rubbed out some of the original paint on the truck to get a fresh glimpse?

Nice looking blue REPU!

Final code...

Hi all.

The mystery is revealed. It is a AK Olympia Blue code. I got the paint from Standox, and their mixcode is 008158.

I hope to have everything painted at the end of easter. Then it will look really nice !

Have a great day. (I feel so good, bechause I just drove the REPU :) )
