Brad's coil overs installed!

I actually had them on the truck on Monday, but I wanted to get the rear suspension done at the same time.

In a word: Kickass! Hardest part was breaking loose the 3 17mm bolts and nuts that hold the lower a-arm on, and then getting them back in place after the coil over is in place.

I put new shocks in all the way around, and 2 inch lowering blocks in the back. The truck looks like a true low-rider now :)

After tearing around the neighborhood 9pm tonight, here's my observations:
I have a slight rub on the drivers side outer fender very deep potholes. I was a little crazy and intentially aimed for it, and heard the scrape. Nothing a little fender folding won't take care of. Ride is a little bumpier, prolly because of the new stiffer shocks, and the blocks in the back.... but it is still I think a better ride than what it was.

I'll be driving the truck tomorrow to work (first time in 8 months) so I'll have some highway traffic to contend with, and some construction around the workplace to deal with too... I'll also try to take some pics of the truck 8) ... let you know how it goes.

Ok, more feedback:

The good: she does handle better
The bad: vibration when going above 85
The ugly: have to watch out for potholes and bad pavement

I've heard horror stories about lowered trucks, and this really isn't that bad. It did get 'bouncy' in the constuction zones around here... more so when they have those huge steel plates over trenches they dig on the avenues around here, and the 'speed bump' repairs public works does on the roadway after the trenches are filled. The majority of my bumpyness comes from the rear...

I'd LOVE to get a set of real coil overs back there, not just the Koni adjustable shocks, and leafs.

Looks Great

Dan, looks great. I need to get with you sometime and talk about the TII conversion. You gave me some pointers a while back but, I'm still up in the air about a few things. When you have some time hit me with an email and we'll talk offline. crgj@comcast.net Thanks, Charles

glad u like the coilovers Dan!

That truck looks fantastic.

Is the front end bottoming on the bump stops? I had to trim the front bump stops 1.5" for clearance. I put shoe whitener on top of the stops, which'll rub off on contact. To check for bottoming.

For the back, it looks like the Koni's have small springs on them? That'll increase rear spring rate. I would either remove those springs, or remove a leaf or two.

I removed a leaf (2nd longest leaf) and it lowered the back mabye an inch, and softened it up. Much more comfortable. I'm not using blocks.

Virbration could be pinion angle? I'd reccomend getting a front alignment too.

Later!
Brad
