Sounds good to me if my truck is road worthy. I just picked up a used bed. Haven't installed yet.

Sounds good Brad. I went the steelhead in San Francisco years ago. I think I liked it. Can't quite remember.

Can't make that date. I'm on call at work that weekend. Still working on the bed. Hope to have the truck on the road in a couple weeks. Hey Brad, After installing the Torsen I'm noticing alot of spring wind up on the rear axle. Do you have any ideas regarding traction bars for the REPU's? I'll most likely modify factory leaf spring clamps to minimize play from 2nd leaf removal.

That day doesn't work for me either. Maybe we can all get together for dinner at Steelhead the day of sevenstock? Might be able to get more people to go as well.

Hi Sparky,

DID NOT notice that on my repu. Are you sure it's not just the rear tires trying to break loose due to putting more power to the ground now?

I bought from Pep Boys two dusty packages of leaf spring clamps. Showed them to ya at Stone. Very simple and effective way to clamp the leaves together in front of axel only. They do like to come loose, and creeeeak. I endedup using lots of blue loctite and that helped. Also use fat fender washers under the nylox. Mounted plate side down to keep it away from the gastank.

Now, traction bars. Yeah they're doable and help with straight line acceleration but mess up handling. Drag launch usage is their best fit. When I talked to Chris Greene he said he tried them at an auto-x once and promptly removed them. Same with cal-tracs.

The real deal leaf setup is composite mono-leaf springs. Weigh 60% less than steel, much thicker and eliminate axel wrap up. Also greatly reduce lateral movement. And track better over bumps, especially under braking when the rear of truck gets light. And you can have them made already lowered so you don't need heavy blocks and heavy longer u-bolts. And can specify spring rate.

Yeah I hear ya Max on SSX timeline, I was just hoping to do something sooner.

Hey Brad, You and your gal are welcome to come down anytime. I'm about 2 miles from stone. Or we can hang out in the garage and BS about rotaries. I have a 1/4 barrel of Bastard flowing in the kegerator (which is in the garage) now!

I have a whole lotta axle pivot. Also, after the leaf removal I immediatley noticed wheel hop when accelerating from stop. Even more after the Torsen upgrade. I was working on the frame with the bed off while sitting on the tire and was able to rock back and forth while observing axle. Driveshaft was not turning and axle looked really bad. For starters I'll drill and tap factory spring clamps and install jacking bolts with locknuts to take up play. If that doesn't work I'll opt for the clamps.
Thanks.
Scotty.

Sparky,

Were the mains slapping against the rest of the leaf pack when rocking the tires back and forth? And pinion angle changing during?

I've seen that a lot on old and even modern mini-pickups.

And yeah, beer talk is good talk. How far u from Stone brewing? Might make a trip down there. Pony keg of Bastard is Good Times.

Anyone wanna go to Willow Springs Raceway this Sunday? N.A.S.A. is out there all weekend. My alam-motter.

Brad

Regarding BEER. If you went to Max's I could make it. And pinion angle changes alot. I just installed jacking bolts on factory clamps and noticed improvement. Heven't driven the truck yet. Not sure on making to the speedway on Sunday.
