New Owner

Hello all,

My name is Mark and I am a proud new REPU owner! I purchased the truck Chuck (wondering) was selling. This is my second REPU, the last one being 20 yrs ago! First off, I would like to thank Chuck for taking such good care of this truck (and selling it to me for a very fair price). It really is in amazing condition IMO. Once I got it home, I offloaded it and took it for a drive. The engine and brakes work just fine. The trans is noisy in 3rd and the clutch does slip a little under full throttle but this sucker does move! The only rust I found of any consenquence was on the drivers floor from a leaking windshield seal. It looks to very treatable without any replacement. My plan is to fix the mechanical issues, try to have the small dents popped without damaging the original paint (in great shape), repaint the wheels, replace the carpet and headliner and enjoy the truck. Any tips on problem areas to look at? One thing I have been thinking about is the brand new in box dash pad that came with this truck. Am I correct in assuming that this is essentialy unavailable? I have all manner of old japanese cars that I currently am restoring or have restored and the dashes are always a problem. Anyhow, seeing as I do have a perfect example, does anyone have a source that may be able to copy it for a reproduction if there is interest? I know from trying to have other parts reproduced, sometimes the hardest thing to get is a original sample. I may try and take my truck and 240Z to the JCCS next month. Anyone else planning to go?

Welcome and congrats! You bought a very clean REPU.
I hope to see you and your newly acquired vintage classic @ JCCS!

Greetings, Mark!

...and congratulations on your score! You may want to start a separate thread in the 'interior' section here, perhaps entitled 'Mint, NOS Dash Pad potentially available to facilitate reproduction', or some such...(?) I'm sure we have other Members here who know more about those possibilities than I -- hopefully, still current and involved Members...

Alternately, I might be prepared to offer you an *entire* (project-grade) '74 REPU in exchange for said dashpad.

Anything in particular you might desire/would consider in trade? ;)

Mark,

Just send out your original to Just Dashes. Keep the NOS one on the shelf, since like you said, they're impossible to get now. I just had my split dash recovered by an upholstery shop for about $70, but since they don't do the vacuum application where I went, it is a little 'big' where the glove box door meets the underside of the dash, but everything closes and it looks great. Just Dashes redoes them properly and from what I've heard, their stuff looks better than original.

Neal.
