Burning through the clear coat

...is seriously one of the worst feelings ever.

Green tape on hood is where the damage is (and where I'm trying to repair it):

I was wet sanding the 2 day old clear coat, applying rubbing compound and then buffing when I guess I stayed in one spot for just a second too long.

If any of you are wondering, I'm painting and derusting the entire truck, panel by panel. I just don't think I'm good enough to paint everything all at once.

I got it one piece at a time and it didn't cost me a dime... Lol looks good but sounds like a pain

It is a pain, but without taking some of these panels off, I'd never be able to get in there and take care of some of the hidden surface rust.
