Anyone doing anything to their truck?
Alright I'll give. I'm getting my headlight bezels replated. Here is a before pic. I post a pic when I get them back.

maybe thats why no ones on... too busy working on their trucks!

Is that very expensive having the plastic piece replated? Isn't there a special process they do for those; can't remember the name exactly; it was a couple of years ago when I was reading about it.
Anyway, the rest of your front end looks great. It appears the bumper and hood trim have already been rechromed from the pics and the center grille looks new too.

Yep...
I'm about to finish stripping a cab/bed/rolling chassis for Geoff. Apparently his cab has so much rust that all of mine are far superior, so one that wasn't ever going to get built will now become one with all of his good parts, and another REPU will end up/stay on the road. Gotta love that! :)
RE: 'Chrome' on those parts: The plastics are 'vacuum metalized'; the hood trim I think is thin stainless -- it's not chrome, that much is for sure. (Nice level of polish on yours tho, Max!)
If anyone's restoring/repainting a center grille, that color of silver is called 'Argent'. ;)

Actually . . .
those plastic front end pieces are chrome plated and not vacuum metalized and yes, expensive.

Yep, vacuum metalizing is a process for chroming plastic but this shop does it different. The hood trim piece is indeed stainless and was polished by me.

Edumacate me, please!
If plastic 'chrome' isn't vacuum metalized, and a regular chrome shop cannot or will not chrome plastic... who/what/where is involved in doing it right, or by the preferred/superior method?

plastic can indeed be chrome plated just like any metal part all you have to is paint it first with a special paint high in copper i saw a clip on tv that was done at advanced plating which is one of the best in the country

OK, I'll pipe in. Next month my 77 is up for smog. Gotta love that! Wish the bigger cab was made in 76 then I wouldn't have to deal with it. Have a rebuilt air pump to put on, just got a co analyzer on ebay to precheck the carb, and then to check all the valves and the evap system. Last time I took it to my old mechanic (he got all the factory training when these were new) but he moved to Costa Rica, and the new owners didn't know didly about it, finally sold me a new gas cap and passed it after I talked circles around them. So everyone keep your fingers crossed for me cuz I'm goin solo on this one.

Dhood. Do you drive your Repu everyday? Or say more than 3000 miles a year? If not, you might want to check into your state laws about classic car insurance.
My state requires emissions tests on all vehicles all the way back to '67, however, last year new legislation was passed for the collector car hobbyist. Now, if you keep classic car insurance on your vehicle you are no longer required to have the emissions testing every year.
The catch is, there are certain requirements you must meet to obtain this insurance and yes there is mileage restrictions. Most plans I have seen are from 1000 to 3000 miles. Mine is 6000. It is more for shows and events although some pleasure driving is allowed.
Just a thought. I know how painful the smog checks can be.

I don't think we have any insurance classic or otherwise like that.

I've just been finishing up my ls1 swap, cant wait to use the 6speed and have a better sounding exhaust.
hahaha ok ookkk j/k.. i just washed it last week, thats about it thats new.. just been working on why the ass end keeps fishtailing when i shift any ideas? i think its a fuse, i didnt see anything on it in the owners manual and i still haven't found the ARS button.

boyotoyo and others thanks for the advice. Yes I do drive my truck about 3-5k a year. I'll look into classic insurance but the truck is getting kinda worn out and ugly so not sure how the ins company will view me keeping it for shows only. But its a good idea and might motivate me to start working on the cosmetics. I'm in Calif so probably a no go to get out of smog requirements. In fact in this state Jay Leno had to go lobby to stop the govt from imposing new updated equipment on classic cars. I used to have a pink slip for a 76 and coulda swapped the VINs I guess but truck goes fast enough and has pssed smog so far. I have a 66 Sunbeam Alpine that my turbo 13b will go into someday.

You need to switch on the stabilitrack and ABS.
I think that switch is in the center console and the button has those wavy, fishtailing lines........I'll look in my owners manual too. Tim

Tim, Just wathced the video for srpay on chrome. Awesome. Looks like the technology is new and there is not alot of DIY kits out there. Hopefully that will change soon. I definitlet need to touch up the headlight bezels and front bumper.

REPU REPOWER
As many of you have seen I am i the process of dropping a new motor (4 port J-Bridge) into my 74 REPU. It will also be installing a full roll cage w/ 5 pt harness, a new carpet kit, door seals, and a recovered bench seat as the buckets I put in are just too big for comfort.
I am going to be utilizing a MSD 6A and MSD Timing controller to retard the timing on the lead coil (trail coil will not be active) when using the Cold Fusion Nitrous System.
I was looking at installing a RX-8 6 spd while I was at it, and have determined I need to stay focused or I'll never get it back on the road. Besides I need to beef-up the rear end and drive shaft before I fiddle with the transmission, as they will be the weakest link. With over 400 h.p. I cant imagine the rear diff and drive shaft will hold up very long. I hope to have an 8" ford rear end with limited slip differential installed in the next few months.
The exhaust will also get a bit of work done to it, and I am going to remove some of the rust and respray some of the bed to hold back the rust until I can repaint the whole truck. I think I will also remove the trailering mirrors in-lieu of some nice small 4" square or rounf mirrors.

I know for a fact the repu ring and pinion with a 3rd gen torsen LSD is good for at least 460rwhp @ 14psi. You will want a limited slip with all that power. The tranny broke long before anything behind it did. It sounds like you'll be dragracing so a Turbo2 diff may last longer. Dan had an aluminum one piece driveshaft made, very nice.
