After few years of searching...

Hi guys, after few years of searching...finally found and bought my first Repu!! It's in transit at the moment and should be here today or tomorrow. So excited but at the same time...worry! Worry about not knowing what to do to bring this rare rig back to life. Engine starts but lots of smoke and body wise, it's pretty solid but not sure about the under chassis. Will have to inspect when it gets here.

I'm not a mechanically sound person and don't know too much about rotaries at all. It's my first one and have been online doing a lot of reading regarding rotaries. I will need all the help I can get from you fine folks here.

I reside in So-Cal area(SGV). For those of you whom lives in the area...please provide leads to a trustworthy mechanic and body shop. Like I said, not very knowledgeable and not very mechanically sound.

Thanks in advance and will be posting up pictures condition of truck when it arrives to get feedback you guys!

Thanks again...

Tim

Congratulations on your find. What city in SGV do you live in because I know of a shop in Ontario that did some work for me and I was happy. Andy on this forum may know of one or two more. Here is the one in Ontario.

Well, I kinda got cold feet after it finally arrived at my house...it looked way worst than when I first saw it online. See, I'm not a very knowledgeable nor mechanically incline with rotaries. I got scared and just let it sat in back of my house. After few weeks went by and I finally got the guts to really take a close look at my Repu and found that it isn't really all that bad so I called my buddy (whom is a rota head w/ clean RX2) and asked him to stop by this coming weekend to see what he can do for me and what his advices are.

He's going to refer his mechanic to me so we can get that 13B rebuild and everything else. After engine comes out....then will take to my friends' body shop and see what he can do to it.

I will update again as soon as I get some new news....

Wish me luck!!!

Just an update after my initial post 4 months ago....my brother in law's cousin will be performing the mechanical in his garage and he's REALLY good! He knows a lot about rotaries and has tons of rotaries sitting in his garage. He'll be pulling and installing my old and (wil be) my newly rebuild street port 13B.

Dropped off Repu at his house last Wednesday and now heading over to his house to pick up the shell of Repu(thank god for AAA) and taking it over to my buddy's body shop in ELA.

More updates to come.....

Hi guys.....a little updates on my 74' Mechanic finally pulled the engine out in less than 2 hours but I didn't picked up the truck til 3 days later! Dropped it off at my buddy's shop and its been sitting there ever since.

He took the whole truck apart, got all the rust out of the truck, welded on few plates to the floor board due to heavy rust penetration but its all good now. Sprayed on heavy duty protective under coating on chassis and tub, body work throughout, primed and spray painted engine bay and interior! I originally wanted the orange color but settled with OEM yellow.

I'm still sourcing front and rear weather seals, windshield and back slider window, door jab seals, rear tail lights chrome surrounds and etc....

Engine issues is another story....

Its going to be a long ride...

Fingers crossed!

Tim

PS....I uploaded few pics in the photo gallery under "top1usa"

Almost there....

***Updates as of 10-1-2011***

Stop by the shop today and checked out how my truck is doing. Everything are in except I need to get the bumper straighten out and get it re-chrome. Front and rear glass are both installed and looked great! Spray on liner are done and need to place an order for both door deals at Mazda dealership on Monday. Most likely will be picking up the truck in few weeks and get it to my mechanic. Notice the shade of yellow is a bit different from the previous pics, that's because the sun were really bright and strong today. Anyway, check out pics below.....

Looking real good Tim.

Just a thought, if you haven't started on the engine yet, I hope you might bring it to SEVENSTOCK this year.

7stock...

@davesrepu.....thanks a lot! Still have a long road ahead but its getting there slowly but surely. For sure...pics will be posted up as the progress proceeds forward!

@Tim(PA1360)...that's actually what I'm aiming for(7stock) but I really doubt the engine will be up and running by then. But you never know...I'll definitely do my best. Don't think they(7stock) will allow us to tow it there and display it on a trailer?

Can't wait til 7stock tho....love to meet you and other Repu'ers in person and get some knowledge and advises from the very best in this field! I'll be there regardless if the Repu is done or not.

*****updates as of Dec. 25, 2011*****

Merry X'mas everyone! Been absent for a little bit but all is good now! My bumble bee color scheme rebuild engine is finally in!!!!!!! It's been a long road since I purchased it but everything is coming together but still long ways to go to be complete. I'll keep at it! Next obstacle is...once we get it fire up, off to the muffler shop it goes for some new pipings, resonators and exhaust! Photos will be follow when this happens. Mean time...need to save more money for this project!!!

Thanks Neal! I'm trying my best. Sticking to its OEM color was my intention from the start and I'm sure that's what Frank wanted as well!

Streetport 13B w/Weber 48 IDF downdraft...

Hey guys, haven't been here for a while! Little update on my Repu....engine went in, started it and my mechanic just couldn't get it to tuned right but found out the rear housing had a hair line crack and wouldn't compression, So, new housing were purchased and just dropped it off at mechanic's place.

Photo below were taken this morning before he tears it down and rebuild it again! Hopefully this time around will be a good one! Fingers crossed!
