new owner - 1977 REPU

Just got home last night from Omaha, NE with my new-to-me Mazda REPU. I'm a long time Mazda lover and RE fan and can't wait to dive into this project! Looking forward to learning the ins and outs of these trucks.

Waiting on new tires, the ones on it are over 13 years old and one just went flat standing still. Leads me to a question; I pulled a center cap off and it was packed with grease and a make shift rubber band I presume to help hold it on. My concern is, is there supposed to be grease in there?

welcome to the club

Is the center cap original equipment and heavy?

Up front is standard wheel bearing grease caps so it would be a good idea to pack the front wheel bearings and inspect the calipers and pads.

In terms of grease I personally use a little silicone grease for installation. There are two bands of ruberized material for center cap retention at least on the earlier models.

Rear, standard primary wheel cyl. or axle seal issues.
