Gauge cluster wiring (rev buzzer?)

Hey guys,

My odometer stopped working a few years ago, and now with my new project car I decided to take the odometer/speedometer from it, and put it in my good truck. While I was doing this I found a difference in the wiring on the gauge cluster. Mine has two wires that were not connected. One is green and goes into the back of the tach, and the other is green with a white stripe and is attached to a screw with another wire (yellow with black strip) that also goes into the back of the tach. Each wire has a female bullet connector on it, and I can't seem to find a corresponding male of the same color in the dash wiring. My truck has never buzzed when approaching red line like my RX-7 does, and I can only assume it should. Could these wires be why? If so where do they attach? Also on the project truck gauge cluster these wires don't exist. The back of the tach housing has numbers printed on it, and my truck is 1854, and the project truck is 1856. I am assuming those are different numbers due to different production runs even though both trucks are 74's.

I will attempt to attach pics, but I am not really good at this.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Chris

The redline buzzer is missing from those pics. It's a separate unit that screws onto the back of the tach. About the diameter of a half-dollar coin. A green wire and a yellow wire go to it.

I plugged in an over rev buzzer from my spare 1979 RX-7 insrument cluster, and it worked just fine aside from maybe being a bit late to buzz before redline. I however didn't mount it to the instrument cluster as I didn't know where to mount it. Could you show me a pic of how the REPU one mounts so I can figure out if I can mount the RX-7 unit in the same manner?

Chris

Mine was mounted right on the lower left corner of your photo where you are missing a screw. I had this all apart last night coincidentally because my speedometer was squeaking and driving me nuts. I pulled everything apart and cleaned the inside of the gauge glass and oiled everything in the speedo and odometer.
