Who needs tail light gaskets???
Due to Craig's (our parts Guru) generosity, in loaning me some new gaskets, I have been sucessful in manufacturing reproduction tail light gaskets.
I have made a mold, and although they may be less than perfect overall, they look and work swimmingly.
I have solved the perpetual and elusive (I might add) "shrinkage problem, and they fit marvelous. I have now produced a pile of gaskets, and less the set that I have pledged to Craig for his generosity, I now pronounce them available to my Brothers and Sisters.
Let me know how many we need and I will cast them as we need them and only ask for cost ($2.50 ea. or $10.00 set) + shipping in return. Contact me at nwarms@earthlink.net.
I also have been sucessful in manufacturing reproduction free airbox gaskets ($5.00 ea.). (the large three dimensional ones) If anyone needs some, let me know.
I am now looking for a very good front turn signal gasket set. I can use a single one if it is really good on both sides.
If anyone has a new or nearly perfect one, I can mold it, and for that you get a free set (if I am successful that is)
If there are other gaskets we need, let me know, and I will try to get a mold of them as well depending on whether I can get a good sample to work from.
Craig, Thank you and your set is on the way.

I'll take a set for sure (the airbox too) assuming cost isn't in the trillions :)

front turn signal gasket
Charles what side do you have? I have a new right side gasket but not the left. Ken I`d like to make moulds of the backup lamp lens gasket, but I`m not sure what to use for the mould (I have NOS B/U lamps with new gaskets and they will make great moulds). I will soon have a set of NOS sidemarker gaskets for reproduction purposes. And I`m looking for a gasket for the original left door mirror if anyone has one they could lend for reproduction purposes it would br appreciated.

Ok, Here goes......
What to make the mold out of depends on the material being used, and the complexity and shape of the part itself. For the turn signal gaskets, I used a Urethane for the Mold. For the Airbox gasket, I used an Epoxy compound. These gaskets are relatively easy to make one-dimensional gaskets. The problem is not really making the mold, it is the combination of making a mold and choosing the material to inject or pour. If the part is a bit hefty and /or shaped in a ring, the "shrinkage of the material causes them to be too small.
For the turn signal gasket, as you all know, it is a relatively complex gasket that is three- dimensional. I haven't worked out all the bugs, but my plan is to make a prototype mold and inject it from pure silicone. The tooling and material expense will put the gasket somewhere in the $15.00 ea range, but they should be very nice and a bit sturdier than the originals. Remember, we now have access to much better materials than they did in the 70's.
Also, keep in mind that use of a good quality mold-release is a must if you want to preserve the original gasket. Craig, when you get yours this week, you will see that the originals are in perfect shape.
I hope to someone has a new turn signal gasket and marker light gasket. I would love to get a back-up as well and then I could make complete kits. It is a good idea for all of us to try this, Some one is bound to get them right. It is kind of fun trying to reproduce these. I have a heap of scrap gaskets from all my failures. And since I have NO new gaskets of any kind, I rely on you guys to provide the plugs.
Another thing is that cutting gaskets vs. pouring or injecting them makes a lot of waste and in turn causes the finshed product to be a lot more expensive due to the material cost.
Although my tail light gaskets show some pour marks on one side, I think you will al be very pleased with the resulting quality.

Thanks Orville, I didn`t think that you would have more than one. If I pull this off I`ll send you a couple of repro`s.

they arrived
The reproduction lense gaskets came in, I compared them to the originals. They have the identical shape and thickness of the original but the silicone is much softer than the factory gasket material. I think that this may give a better seal than the original, it should certainly outlast them.

I'll take a set as well along with the back up light gaskets if you ever do those as well.

Come one,...Come all.....
Yes my brothers, there will enough for all. I have four complete sets ready to mail. I ask a mear $10.00 a set (+ $2.00 shipping) from the family here. (Some of you may have noticed I am selling them on Ebay as well for a bit more to pay for tooling, time and materials) so you all get the inside deal.
But, for the family I ask the more modest price. I am making about two a day, so it takes a while, and first come first serve. Craig got the first public set, and I got the first three sets.
Please remember, they are hand made and include slight imperfections that do not hinder their performance...Ha, Ha, haven't we heard that somewhere before?
I take PayPal at nwarms@earthlink.net or email me for snail address.
I am in process of making turn signal mold. but it is a 5 piece mold and is a bit more complex, so it may take a while to get it perfected to produce a quality gasket.
I am looking for any new condition or very good used turn, marker or reverse light gaskets. He who submits and waits gets the first sets and originals back.
I am thinking about wheel grippers, but if there is no market....you know, what's the point of all the work.
