Well Marty you will probably get the same answer from many of the others on this forum. We are all rotary lover here so there for we will allways say GO ROTARY!!!!!.

Anything is possible as far as swaps go but it all comes down to how much money do you have to spend? I would probably just try rotary power first, and then if it is too slow then go turbo. The thing is you will be spending a fair amount of money either way if you are to do it right.I guess I have a question for you. Will you be able/willing to perform most if not all of the work yourself? If so you will save money ,but it will still be pricey.

Every RX-7,for that matter any RX series so far has been rotary. Early rotaries may not have been as reliable.Depends on who you talk to about that. But then again the older ones were simpler, and would most likely be cheaper to get used.
I would think the older ones may be easier to swap due to the way the engine mounts, but then again most pieces from a rotary are interchangable from year-to-year engine size-to-engine size.

If you are in it to go cheap maybe a V6/8 would be easier and a bit more cost effective due to the shear numbers of those engines available.Good luck

Chris

P.S. just go out and buy a good REPU you will thank yourself in the long run.

i was wondering do you need to strengthen the front suspension on a 89 b2200 if you swap in a 13b , and if there are any other parts need to be changed on the front end
