clogged fuel lines???

my neighbor recently bought a 74 repu..... man this thing is beutiful i'm gonna take pics and post with his permission of course. it came with the complete track record of it's life. he is the 5th owner. the problem is that is runs only if you pour gas in carb. we think either fuel lines or fuel pump..

Sounds likely...

(check my other post responding to your other thread)... sure 'nuff, 'stuff' accumulates in the gas tank over 30+ years... if it's not the pump, or just the filter, it could easily be the pick-up tube in the tank... Might be time to drop it all, flush it, and perhaps even re-line the tank to take care of any rust issues...? Remember, too, your carb's floatbowl is likely full of 'it'... might have some clogged jets/emulsion tubes/inlet screens/etc...

Over the years, I've found that the most common problem......

with failed fuel systems from vehicles just sitting still is a bad or corroded ground on the electric fuel pump. I'm not saying the pump isn't close to TU or the carbs not dried up with glazed bowls, but you might get some time out of it if you just clean up the grounds, and get it a clickin. I've found most all of them have a bit of time left in them, weak, but still alive. That might by you enough time to totally assess the condition of the truck and plan your moves.

Just my $.02 worth.

Excellent point, Ken!

...nothin' like rust and corrosion on electrical connections to ruin one's day. (might wanna clean up some other crucial ones while you're at it!) * "DeOxIt"-type spendy chemical in a little teenie spray can at your local electronics speciality supply house can be a miracle in a can, applied super-sparingly after disassembly & wire-brushing... :)

Make sure your pump actually pumps, (flow check), and not just clicks, a lot of times the pump still makes noise but doesn't actually work because the little one way valves inside have failed
