TII motor

Dan-the-admin-Man, Do you have any words of wisdom about a TII swap. I am considering putting a TII motor in my second truck, since its not stock anyway. Anything special I should look for or be sure not to do? Any help on the matter is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Charles

Things to look for

Some things to look for:

Get a GSL-SE type front cover. Makes things a whole lot easier than trying to rig up engine mounts further back.

Get a Haltech or some other full aftermarket computer. It is easier than trying to get a complete T2 harness and ECU.

If possible, find a way to move the engine mounts forward by about 2 inches so you don't have to cut the cab soo much. I used some heavy gauge steel bars that connect the engine mounts to the frame. even with this, you'll probably have to notch the tranny hole a bit.

Actually that is one thing I'd do different: see if I could get some way to shorten move the gear shifter forward on the tranny itself, that way, the entire engine could be moved back.

Maybe that will be a summer or next winter project: get a spare tranny and experiment cutting and welding up the gear shift area, or maybe try to mount something off an earier rotary tranny to fit in the stock location.

Next up, fuel delivery: replace your fuel lines with bigger beefier lines filters and pumps.

Then, intercooling: cut the hood to feed the IC, or cut the inner fenders to put intercooler piping through to the front.

Upgrade the whole truck's wiring, maybe with a painless kit. I can't really talk to that yet, as it is on my to-do list.

There's probably 100 other small things... I'll update this thread as I think of them :)

Thanks

Thanks, Dan. I have several core engines 12A, 13B so a front cover is not even a question. I've experimented with Tranny's and rear tailshaft housings before, so that should't be too big a deal. Glad to know about the fuel lines and pump. Good info on the management system, I was worried I'd have to find a complete car and get the ECU and harness. Thanks for the great first hand experiences and knowledege. Charles
