Replacement muffler

Well it is time to replace the muffler again. I am considering a welded case muffler such as a FloMaster 3 chamber or a FloPro 18" baffled muffler. Has anyoune tried either of these units and how does it sound and last? I've had FloMasters before on a non-rotary engine and they seem to drone at highway speed. Any other suggestions on a muffler besided Racing Beat's Power Pulse? I'll be using this on a fairly stock 13B engine that has Racing Beat headers and a sidedraft Weber. Thanks.

flowmasters don't sound very good on rotaries, i would not reccomend a flowmaster. magnaflow sounds better, deeper sound, and can take the heat as a rear muffler.

The repu will need more than 1 muffler, most guys run RB presilencers up front, or some sort of pre-muffler that can take the heat. I've been meaning to try magnaflow's MAGNAPACK or a high temp glasspack.

I would stay away from...

...ANYTHING packed with fiberglass. It *always* blows out, just a question of how soon. With the weber and the header, why shortchange yourself ? ...especially since RB is once again making the power pulse mufflers. (Mazdatrix might be offering a slightly better deal, since they're the 'authorized reseller').
No substitute for straightest shot, best flow, heaviest wall materials, and stainless or perhaps rock-wool packing... with a perforated steel core to keep it all in place!
I recently got a telephone quote from Mazdatrix' preferred/recommended, experienced 'installer' --located 'in their back yard'-- that put a complete, *proper* exhaust for the REPU, ('long primary', from the header on back), in mild steel, at approx $700-(under)$800, parts and labor... and that's LA, CA shop labor rate.
(It should be doable for less...)

Replace the muffler

After looking at the cost of the RB muffler and pre-silencers, I went with Magnaflow. I put an 18 inch muffler and ahead of that I also put an 14 inch muffler as a resonator. The two mufflers cost me $117 and the installation cost $40. The tail pipe did not have to replaced. The Magnaflows are welded units and are a straight through design with a perforated pipe and packed with rock wool. The sound is nice and time will tell on how well they hold up. For $160, I don't think that I could have gotten a better deal. Thanks for the suggestions.

I should darn well...

...hope so! I would think with the years of highly touted racecar fab experience, anything else would be a joke...
