converted to electronic distributor
after having all the parts fro about 2 months, i finally got around to it.

after

now i have alot of wires to remove. i just put electrical tape over the connectors and zip-tied em out of the way in case i had to go back to points for some reason.
next...on to DLIDFIS and MSD experiments.

I don't run vacuum advance on mine. You should experiment with that too.
By the way, did you remember to hook up the little condensor on the dizzy? If not, it sits down between the vacuum diaphram pot things and has a bullet connector. Hook it to the + wire that goes to the B terminal on the ignitors.

Not exactly sure. I've just made it a rule to always hook it up. No probs with AM radio here.

I was gonna get a Dizzy from an 84 this weekend, but I heard that there were variations on it? One has the chips/modules/whatever on it and the others doesn't. I want to know which is better or if it even matters? Can I convert either one to use the gm units?

Does anyone have step-by-step instructions on how to convert to 81-85 electronic distributor?

When I did mine it was really easy. Just look at the car you are pulling the system out of and hook it up the same.
The things you will need from the donor car is the distributor, the coils, and all the wires that run between the 2.
If you leave everything connected when you pull it from the donor and it will be really easy to hook up.

I was never able to get mine running very well without the vaccuum advance. I would adjust the timing so it idled well but then it ran poorly at high rpms. I adjusted it to run better at high rpms and it idled really rough.
