DLIDFIS -- help a newbie?

Hi, I just took my 77 repu to the local Mazda guru - MAZ-TEK, to get her tuned properly. He told me I needed a new set of points, rotor and leading coil. but that they all were unavailable. So he suggested he replace the distributer with an 81 RX-7's and wanted $500 bucks to do it.

So I figured, it's time for me to do a DLIDFIS!

So I've been reading every thread I can find on DLIDFIS, coils, ignition, electrical sys, dizzy-swap...etc.(don't want to ask the already asked and answered questions)

So far I went to the local junkyards, 1 had crushed all RX's :(
But I was able to get an 82 12B electronic distributer and an extra set of igniters from another.

So I have it mostly hooked up, but a couple of newbie questions, sorry.

If any one can help...

I need to know if I have 2 MSD 8223 BLASTER3 coils and one newholf . My question is in a DLIDFIS with these MSD coils, will I have to use ballast resisters?

The other question is after the install, can I just remove the ignition relay and the retard relay?

Sorry, a third question, so sorry . . . is it a bad idea to T together the two vacuum advanced diaphragms on the new distributer?

Thanks very much for all responses, any help is appreciated!!!

You dont need ballast resistors with the electronic distributor setup. And I am pretty sure you can just most any aftermarket coil as a direct swap without worry.

I'm using the DLDFIS upgrade on my repu. Using single vacuum hose with tee for both leading and trailing advance diaphrams. No issues with advance.

Thanks sparky and tom93r1...

Both very helpful...I hooked it all up last night, it started right up! drove it around the block, !WOW! what a difference!

It did backfire a little so I checked all connections and found that the trailings were not firing. Was caused by a bad igniter, replaced and now it runs like CRAP if I have the trailings connected :(

I thing the timing on the trailings is so far off that it is impeding the leading?

I have 5 manuals for the repu - chiltons, hayes, mazda... all tell me to set the timing differently :( What is this, Rocket science?!

Anyway, I'm driving on the leadings only for now. I'm not sure if I will try more timing or just take it to MAZ-TECH next week.

But MAN it sounds GOOOOOOOD! and has more pep than EVER!

I just saw this. Either your trailing plug wires are going to the wrong plugs, or your leading pickup wires are hooked backwards.

Thanks for your expertise!

The leading pickup wires are correct, and the trailing plug wires seemed to be correct but when I switched them to be L1 on dist. cap to T2 on the motor and l2 on the cap to T1 on the motor it ran perfect!

It now has all the power it never had since I bought her!!!

I'm not sure why it works backward but the distributer is backwards from how the original one was. i.e. the leading connections were on the side furthest from the alternator but now with the 82 dizzy, they are closest to the alternator.

I did end up with an extra igniter, who is bad, I now plan to read more on your website to use it as a dummy. So I can use a better plug for the leading connection.

Also, Moon, I'm in Boise, ID. I spelled it wrong, it's MAZ-TECH, sorry.
