exhaust differences

just curious on the exhaust of my 75 there is 2 gaskets on the extra engine i got with the truck it has a single gasket like the rx4 gasket. my question is what is the small holes beside the exhaust ports? and what exhaust manifold do i need to use?

thanks in advance trying to swap engines out and this is the first issue i have ran in to.

You can still get a header for it. The single outlet is no longer available. The roadrace which is the dual outlet fits right on. I have one on my repu. Here is the link.

The other hole you are looking at is probably for the smog equipment/ air control . . if we are talking about the same thing. Unless it is the two piece gasket that was on ealier model REPU for the exhaust.

You can get a block off plate for that.

so i know the roadrace header will fit all 74-78s and if it fits the truck why wouldn't the 74-78 2into1 header fit the trucks? might be a dumb question but kind of confusing.. also is the a 2 into 1 that anyone has used with little mods maybe to the collector area of the header? sorry for all the questions but really can't afford a header and to redo all of my exhaust at the moment so kinda would like to go with the 2 into 1 style.

I see yout point but I don't have an answer. Best bet is to call Racing Beat or Mazdatrix.

The 2 into 1/ collected header is a little longer than the road race header. The welding flange is extended out longer. Without adjustment you will hit and have conflict with the transmission bracket/mount.

i did a racing beat build your own road race header kit and saved some $.my truck has dual 2" exhaust , my preres is a 2 in 2 out magna flow i cut both sides open and packed it with stainless steel wool (course 1 lb from mcmastercarr). Some guys buy lava rocks and fill the hollow muffler with that. muffler in the back is dual 2"to single 2 1/2" magna flow . works like a champ . my single 2 1/2"exhaust was not as good . You can buy manderal bends from jegs along with strait pieces of pipe .had about 400.00 in parts .was a pretty budget build but the results were great.dont worry about the length if its stock or street port ,racing beat said it really didnt matter.

Having just done a REPU single exhaust, I'm impressed with the improvised baffling. I have some greasy BBQ lava rocks outside if I had only known.

Hope you can make our next local meet mattraver.
