13 efi excess removal

ok so im planning on dropping an 86 13b n/a into my repu. i know that i must swap the oil pan and front cover. my main goal for the moment is to figure out what needs to stay and what i can block off/remove. this is going to be (for now) a 'completely' stock setup for the repu.

also other input and reminders are helpful too!
thanks!

I'm trying to do the same swap on my 79 RX7 S model. I'll be interested to hear what others have run into on this swap to the early vehicles. I know it would be a lot easier if you stayed with the carburetion, but the EFI is awfully tempting. Especially when you have all the stock parts.

i recently pulled an engine with all i would need to 'drop' it right in... at least i think so. harness, ecu, coils, an engine and such... all stock of course. im pretty sure that i can block off the egr, and the acv, but im wondering if i need all those vacuums on a stock configuration? what else can i eliminate? so basically less junk more engine! who doesn't want that? :)

I agree the less excess junk in the way the better. I'm not sure what can be safely eliminated either, which is why I am so interested in your post. I'm sure somebody has the knowledge out there. I haven't picked up my donor car yet, supposedly some of the emissions has already been eliminated, we'll have to see. I do know that the 6 port secondaries are activated by exhaust backpressure on the 86 & 87 engines. The 88 and later use the air pump, so it should be safe to eliminate that system on your 86. It sounds like we'll be doing about the same thing, my donor is an 87. Great minds think alike? Or maybe misery loves company.

the next step up in reliability from carburetion is EFI. at least in my mind. my main goal is just getting her on the road again, and tweaking her later!!

By eliminating the system, I meant the air pump, not the secondary/6 port. You need that most definitely. The fact that the 86, 87 used backpressure to activate these ports is one of the bennies of using these years.

Here is a link that should have all the answers you need about both the secondary ports and the rats nest under the upper manifold.
