why not? motor mount D????

i have a sweet deal lined up on an 87 turbo engine and transmission. i have read that using an early 13b front housing will allow me to just bolt the engine in. has anyone made the mounting style from the 87 rx-7 work? if i do go with an earlier 13b style front housing what kind do i want to look for??? repu, 1st gen rx-7, cosmo???

It's not the early front housing that lets you bolt it into a repu, it's the early front COVER. Also known as the timing cover...which has 4 studs on the front of it which attach to the stock REPU motor bracket then to stock REPU motor mounts.

87 motors had the motor studs on the sides of the motor.

You'll also need the oil pan from a 84-85 GSL-SE 13b motor. Or a stock REPU oil pan. And the oil pickup tube from any 79-85 rx7.

Getting the transmission to fit with the shifter in the stock hole is another story.

I knew what part I ment and and now looking back I sound like a... Piston person....

I did hear about the pan. But not the dip stick. What's up with that? Clearance issues at the bottom of the pan?

My floor boards are completely toast so moving the shifted shouldn't be too big of a deal. How much are we talking about? Should only be six inches of so right?

What front cover do I want? I've heard of people using a lot of different ones but never any pros and cons.

84-85 GSL SE Front cover. Dip stick is the same.

So a REPU front cover isn't compatible with the later engines?

Stock front cover is compatible with all the newer engines but tje gsl-se is an upgrade with the 4port omp for those who dont have a stock cover

You'll have a hard time finding a gsl se front cover, very rare. Most use 79-85 12a front cover since they made so many of them. Any 74-85 front cover will work. Single distributor.
