Awaiting time frame estimate...

...I'll be trying to budget for these, hopefully not tooo late to participate! Once they're made, and quality, it'll be really hard for me not to just bust out plastic and do it. I would like the option of saving the shipping, and picking 'em up in person, though... (And I would volunteer to test-fit 'em, but... I'd have to do some more work prior to committing to the trip at a given time & date... so, is anyone from Portland available?

Just talked with Rob... He'll confirm the pricing in the next couple of days after he brings a fender down to his glass guy. He still has to check to see if he has "virgin fenders" though... so...

1. Does anyone in the North West have a set of Virgin Fenders that they'd be willing to have molds made from?

2. Rob's shop is always super busy. He'd like to have someone local to do some of the work test fitting the first set. That means coming down to the shop, taking off the front fenders and putting them on. You'd have to do the work yourself, as it would save him time, and reduce the cost for all of us if Rob didn't have to tear apart one of his trucks for a test fitment.

Anyone in the Northwest willing to do one or both of these things? It would go along way for our REPU community!

It looks like we need someone to help Rob. Anyone up for the challenge? I'd do it but it's a long drive from Missouri.

Even longer from East Tennessee! :)

Hope it happens, gonna have to gorilla glue what's left of my fenders onto the truck when paint time comes. The part with the bolt holes look like swiss cheese.

Should we look at the complete list of member

profiles, and see who all from Portland proper ever registered here?

Maine

Sorry I couldn't resist.I am on the fence about these still.I don't need fenders, and I don't have the money right now,but it is really hard for me to pass up on the oportunity to own new parts for my truck.I still have my valence that I didn't need, but bought nayway sitting in the rafters of my garage un-used.

Proves that most of these trucks were initially shipped to the west coast and are quite rare here in the east.
Hopefully one of those folks will step up.

I'm in for a $400 pair + shipping

I'm changing jobs and may not be reading this list much in the next few weeks but count me in. If rob does it, it'll be a good product. I have 2 of his motors and they're still humming.

My new job involves installing s/w that accesses a SQL database, I'll be a SQL rookie. Wish me luck!

I was prepping the drivers side fender last night for primer..the bottom bolt flange snapped right off.
If this project doesn't get going, I'm going to have to start a thread on the pros/cons of Gorilla Glue!

Here is the latest update from Rob:

*******************
I just got the pricing on fenders. The cost of each fender based on 20 total fenders(10pairs) would be $281.29 per fender. I will take a pair for myself. I am estimating on certain things like: cost of having 2 fenders "dressed up" so the mold generates the nicest finish. The smoother the finish on the sample the smoother the finish on the glass part.Does someone have perfect fenders w/ good paint on them they would loan? The painted finish will probably be slightly damaged. cost of having the metal inserts laser cut for the top fender reinforcing and rear mounting reinforcing.

My est. of these costs should be close. They may be $5-15 cheaper. Let me know what the guys think. rob
*******************

The only problem we have right now is getting someone with nice fenders to lend them to Rob and someone to do some test fitting.

Wow, thats almost $600 for a set of fenders. I imagine shipping will be another $50-100 on top of that.

It's still better than spending 5+ hours repair old fenders that will rust again down the road.

REPU fenders

Frankly I am surprised that Rob at Pineapple has agreed to make them at that low price. It is very low for custom fenders made in such low quantity. I inquired previously with another company about making REPU fenders but after hearing feedback from REPU owners I ditched the idea as people seemed simply not willing to pay a reasonable cost to have them made. Try and fab a pair out yourself or have an old timer make some out of metal. I would estimate over a grand just for each fender. People need to stop these comparisons with what you paid for your truck etc, and keep in mind all the materials, work and time that it is going to take to make these complicated buggers.

Agreed, however...

...if more of us had more fund$$$ around, it wouldn't be such an issue in the first place. With more resources, one could start with something in better shape, (once located), and/or afford to do *whatever* to fix it...

(Kinda what you were hoping to meet back when you tried to Ebay your fenders for --what was it-- $1,200.00 apiece, eh?)

Cost is all relative, including to what someone will give you for it if you need to sell.

It's still tempting, and certainly worth it --if someone like Ken would still be willing to loan a set, given the likelihood of finish damage-- but, I'll have to wait and see when I can come up with the funds...

***Is there any possibility of a drastically reduced price deal for the party willing to loan their 'perfect' fenders to suffer likely paint damage? I take it the original stripe would have to be stripped off... Do they need to be 'perfect' on the underside, as well? Just some thoughts--.

(I'd trade a parts REPU for a set!)

price

That is still a competetive price guys. The way I look at it, there are no more *new* fenders so all we'll ever find is used and prolly abused fenders. That need hours of prep work. I think of it as an investment in the future for if my truck gets into an accident.

It ain't cheap, and we all know it'll cost more than a low end used truck, but think about it. How much would an excellent quality *used* fender go for on ebay?

I'm still in.
