Door opening gasket upgrade

just finished the drivers side, took a hour and a half to remove the old w/strip adhesive. after that it was a snap. using the 77 and later door gasket I started in the upper rear corner and took my time. the pinch welt is so easy to install. the door closes, but you can`t slam it yet, after a few weeks it should compress and I should be able to slam the door, took pics, don`t know to download on this BB but if anyone wants to see I`ll email. damn does it look good!

Wanna see it...

Craig,

Go ahead and shoot a few pics of the door seals my way. I'd like to see what mine will *hopefully* look like when it's all done.

Neal.

passenger side done....

took over 2 hours to clean all of the old gasket adhesive,
using 3M adhesive, tar, wax remover-good stuff cleaned the black 3M stuff off my headliner with no problem(got a bit messy trying to do a re-seal with my friend Bud). took 15 minutes to install the new door seal, and to my amazement the door slammed shut, several times. tried the drivers door same thing,(now I did have the rear slider open) but I don`t see any problems in doing this upgrade, looks better, seals better. If any of you wish to look into this the part #`s are 3874-58-901A for the right side and 3874-59-901A for the left side, if the dealer prices seem to high contact me I`ll see if I can get you a better price.

update

seems that when the door would slam shut one of the windows was slightly cracked, so when the windows are all shut you have to shut the door firmly, but not because of excess material. The seal is so good that the pressure differential is causing the difficulty in slamming the door shut.

I wish my doors were that hard to close

i might have to.. I mean i do have to replace mine. I just wasn't in a real hurry to do it....till after this weekend.

Went around to yard sales and my wife kept slamming the crap out of the REPU doors. She is used to the weight of the doors on her new civic.

door strikers?

Have you looked at the door strikers? They may be worn out.
They`re still available from mazda part #s 0259-58-570 for the right and 0259-59-570 for the left, around $14 each
