#%@*%#$@ reflectors

Hey guys, does anyone know how to remove the refelctors on the back of hte bed? Its the only thing I haven't removed from the bed and I can't figure out how to get them off without destroying them.

And while I'm yakking about reflectors:

I don't think I'll be putting them back on when I repaint the truck. What do you guys think? Smooth and clean or original configuration?

The reflector snaps out of the housing...

revealing two screws holding the housing to the body. Now the trick is to remove the reflector without messing up the housing. I used a wide flat and very sharp chisel to GENTLY pry out the relector. Take your time. Be careful as the these plastic parts have about thirty years of oxidation to help soften them up.

Resto or Full Custom?

...that would be my criteria for keeping 'em, or not... They do serve a purpose... But if I were shaving the hooks off the bed, I'd ditch them too.

Thanks for the tips on getting them off. I started along that route but got scared when the plastic housing started getting boogered up by the screw driver.

I LOVE the bed hooks (one of my favourite features) so I'll be keeping them. I'd say the truck will wind up a 'mild custom'. I just hate refectors because they make the truck look like it was made by Schwinn (IMO).

I'll likely leave them off. I don't know if anyone would be interested in them, but I might sell them if I do decide to go with a cleaner look for the rear end.

I do like 'em too, for function...

...didn't mean to dis our REPU's... but if I were to do one 'full custom' (in my $$$$ dreams), they'd have to go...

I am gonna shave the hooks eventually.. But what I was thinking for the reflectors was to just eliminate them.. and if you still want reflectors back there just go to a decal shop and have them cut you two lil rectangles, on reflective vinyl, to the size of the original ones and put them there.. or get two small circles or rings and stick them on the center of the tailight lenses..
