that interests me. Sure I know a nice REPU is worth a few shillings, but it is the combination of obscurity, rareness, uniqueness, and downright coolness of the "rotary truck' that I enjoy. They are a collectors item of the future in my book.

Absolutely. I saw the REPU and fell in love. While I haven't sworn off boingers, rotaries are just easier to own for me. I've beaten the tar out of my '91 Cabrio and the only sticking points there are the usual FC electrical gremlins. When I saw that there was a rotary truck I was excited. When I saw, what I consider to me, funky cool 70's styling I was hooked. Front opening hood, funky front end, external battery box, fast and of course "Rotary Power" emblazoned on the tailgate... I was absolutely hooked. Had to have one. Probably should have two or three.

This thing has character in spades.

I have acquaintences who in their macho-ism, proclaim that my REPU "isn't a truck" from the towering bench of their F350. But I always respond that "I'll bet them their truck, that I can return in an hour with an identical F350 "truck"", and they can't return within a week with a comparable REPU.

Yup. First of all you're right. Finding a decent REPU example is not easy. I've still never seen one besides mine in person :)

Second of all, I've heard this stuff about real trucks, but here's the thing: I need something that I can drive everyday, that I can park easily, get 'decent' mileage, is fun to drive, I can feel good about owning (try that with a Ford) and occasionally throw a few bags of mulch or a washer and dryer in the back or tow a uhaul trailer to help a friend move or pack my bike, that's all the truck that I need.

You don't see Peterbilt drivers telling F350 owners that they should get a 'real' truck do you? Its all a matter of what you need, and the REPU comes through for me. So if you actually NEED a practical reason its worth thinking about.

To make money, I have a job, and rebuild/sell sevens. To go really fast, I have my TII. For fun, amongst other things, I collect and tinker on REPU's. I won't make any money on them, but I will spend my time on something that is enjoyable and produces a product that in the end is nice, fairly rare, eye turning, and not easily replaceable.

Precisely! Since I started riding bikes the idea of speed in a car seems ridiculous. I enjoy quick cars like TIIs but for a pure thrust-fix its no contest. So I've come to enjoy other things about cars, like character and fun. My cabrio is fun to cruise the coast in. The REPU I can only fantasize about right now, but I'll tell you I imagine people coming up to me all the time saying "what is that?" and getting to explain how Mazda made a little rotray pickup that does so much more than it looks like it can. I imagine showing ppl my scrapbook of me and my father taking it straight down to the frame and making something really worth being proud of.

That's why I do it. I'll never recover 25% of what I put in time and money. Luckily I get so much more out of it that I don't think twice about it.

Right on!

Next time one of your macho F350 accquaintances gives you a hard time, bet him 'pink slips' you can win a race with him after you remove your dizzy cap... then do some donuts around the Ford! :)

Well, I guess that I am lucky. I only get to buy new trucks every 29 years. I am the orginal owner of a 74 repu and now also have a 2004 F350 turbo-diesel 4X4. It is hard to go back and forth from one to the other. It is really something to look under the hood of one and the other. On the Ford, I can't reach very far into the engine bay without standing on something. Gee, what will I get after the next 29 years????? (Probably a wheelchair)
