Auto to Manual

So which pedal assemblies are usable from somewhat similar models ? Also which manual trans would be the best fit without having to shorten or lengthen the driveline or cut the trans tunnel?

Courier pedal sets 'oughta' be the same...

All 4 or 5-speed trannies '74 thru '78 (ribcase) will work, despite certain gearing differences... '79/'80 rx-7 5-speeds swap right in as well, no problem! (One of these'll definitely make first gear LOW...)
Save that auto. trans! Someone'll want it. Used to be otherwise, but times seem to have changed...

That was Rotarypwrd.........

who was looking to convert a manual to auto. I wonder if he was sucessful in that endeavor? From my limited understanding of the subject, it is a pretty much straight up swap less a tranny mount issue. I can't recall what issues if any the driveshaft brings up. I believe the floor hole is good for both.

I know its not popular though, cause I tried selling a floor console three times on Ebay for $10.00 with not a single bidder.

I still got that darn thing, now that I have an auto coming, I just might need it....

Guess the drag racers

don't want the console! I've heard that this auto. trans makes a good drag race tranny, properly modded...

Yeah, the stock Jatco is really strong. I have one in my Cosmo.

So, if I have a Jatco in my new truck...

Is this cause for some redline oil to make the best of it? Strong is a good characteristic, but longevity is an equally desireable issue as well. What oil do you run in an early Jatco by the way? For those of you with an auto that is? I'm kind of out touch with auto's earlier than 1995. I can only think of type F and dextron III. Hell, does redline even make ATF?

I don't know, but I bet they do. I just threw in some cheap fluid to top it off.

Redline makes a very nice ATF

I use the High Temperature version in my 99 Amigo V6 that I use to tow the racecar. It has helped lower temps. If you don't tow you can use Redline's normal ATF.

re: Longevity...:

Since so many of the oldschool automatics died at around 40-something K miles, I'd guess it's mainly a matter of ongoing maintenance and upkeep... not that I really would know, but just my guess... if they can go to 40-50 K unmaintained, might they not be darn near 'immortal' with regular maintenance?

NWACO was right, that was me, wanting to convert 5spd manual to auto. Still need to do it. Anyone selling...Capella? anyone else? anybody wanna help?
I found one for sale on partstrader.com a month ago on an rx4 up in oregon. My father had passed away at the time, so when went back to follow it up, post was no longer there, so still looking.

I know what you are all thinking........"no, don't get rid of the precious 5spd for an auto"

just going for a little practicality for the mrs.

Another question, may be able to get my hands on a complete header back to primaflow muffler 13b 4port racingbeat dualexhaust (2 presilencers), how hard would it be to adapt and fit onto our 77 REPU?

THANX, ROTARYPWRD

Actually I'm thinking, "Hmm...I'd like to get my hands on another five speed tranny . . ."

If you can, try to upgrade the cooling system if its affordable for you to do.

Heat seems to kill the engines on these automatics. On average it seems like autos get about half the miles that a manual gets. Anything to keep it cool would be a plus.

Stock automatic setups

had trans. fluid 'cooler' built into the bottom of the radiator...
Exhaust: Get it, if it's in good shape, and the price is right! Simple as swapping to the REPU-specific header--if nessecitated by clearance issues-- and then doing the cutting and welding to fit the rest... Regardless, a desirable exhaust system! They don't make that prima flow any more, do they? Racing Beat is the shit!

I'd be tempted to buy an aftermartket big-ass aluminum radiator and use a seperate trans cooler.

I know its overkill but there's just no shaking the lower mileage that the autos seem to get.
