bolt on exhaust
Is there any bolt on kits for the repu?? I have a racing beat road race header but had no existing exhaust system.

Your best bet is probably to take it to the local exhaust shop. They can usually make a pretty good system for alot less than the bolt on setups. I wonder what an Edelbrock RPM muffler would sound like on a rotary engine...

I bet it would sound really loud hehe. It wouldn't last long either.
Someday I will get Racing Beat's RX-7 dual long primary 'street port' style exhaust system and have it custom fitted to my REPU. I think I'll get the GSL-SE version. I may get Mazdatrix's version though because it has the secondary (5th and 6th ports) pressure bung closer to the engine than RB's version. I'll be using it for an oxygen sensor for an AF guage.

I had duals with turbo mufflers on it before I put the new header (and countless other parts) on and they toasted within 6 months, and thats rarely being driven. It was load as hell and sounded ridiculous, sure got alot of attention though :-).

I received advice that no rotary could be muffled with a full dual exhaust. (Pre dual exhaust rx7) Very true with the stock repu. The sharp edge of the exhaust note cannot be suppressed by anything short of full exhaust mix. Mine had a resonator that had some crossover, two turbo mufflers, and tuned tips. It set off car alarms as I passed. Mazda did some port adjustment on the rx7 motor to soften the sharp note, and no doubt "tuned" like mad.

Gotta Love It!
...setting off car alarms in passing is a highlight!!! Especially since my REPU isn't THAT loud...running two mufflers in sequence as I am... now I just need a cutout switch, so that when some sticker-tuner wannabe gang-banger pumps up his 1000 watt subs in front of me, or pulls up virtually under my tailgate in his lowered honda P.O.S., I can blow their doors off AND set off their alarm with a 3-second rev!!! Love that sweet sound!

Are you running two rotary mufflers or non ?? As soon as I figure out what I am gonna do I will be back daily driving mine and I am getting real anxious.

Mine had good quality "turbo" mufflers, which had proven quite durable and effective on an rx3 and an rx2 that I had used racing beat headers in. They had a single exhaust pipe and no other muffling device. They were raspy but not too loud.
I do the alarm thing with a harley these days but my old repu is sitting in a front yard here in town. I'm sorely tempted to buy it back, but don't know if I have the perseverance to revive it. It has been dead for 10 years.

Two non-rotary "turbo" style mufflers...
...and they're holding up remarkably well. Damned if I'm remembering the specific brand right now, tho--I'll have to look it up. Back when, I was advised this brand was the only one that'd actually live on a rotary... and they were cheap, too! Of course, running them as far to the rear as possible can't hurt either... Wow, H-D bikers into rotaries--who would've guessed? Rebels among rebels, you guys.... all the bikers I ever met were big-inch displacement V-8 rod afficionados... Hey, whaddaya think of this--you must've dreamed this too, at some point: Take a Mazda wankel motor, turn it sideways, and build a frame to hold it... add all the nessecary junk, weld up some custom pipes, chain it to a tranny, and find a way to hold on for dear life and not run outta road when it hits 4K RPM ... (!) I think it could be done, and would be too damn cool, and deadly fun, not to mention LOUD! Wouldn't even need to be too trick, and ya might even have to disable the secondaries to keep it all on the ground... Then, take it to the Aussie outback to do the desert drag scene with all those rotary crazies down under!
