You could still turbo the motor without lowering the compression, but tuning will be much more critical. Race cars of all varieties use force induced high compression engines. Although you need your engine to last a little longer than a race cars will.......running high compression and boost just means that the window for tuning error is much smaller than a lower compression motor.
