Production Numbers
I'm sure there is a thread on this somewhere from years back, but I didn't see it right off, so sorry if so. Does anyone have verified, actual production numbers for the REPU? Just yearly runs would be great, but I was also hoping someone had them for the colors, transmission option, etc. Anyone? Dan? Dave?
Neal.

Is there any way to get the production numbers by the month, and does anyone know when the first ones rolled off the assembly line?I ask because my truck has a 3/74 build date. I wonder what color is the most rare?

If...
...your's has a 'single stiffener' tailgate -- and it's the original one -- then it's one of the earlier ones.

My truck has dual stiffener gte,but who knows if it's original.Does a production date tell you anything? I know my RX-7 is earlyby the build date, single mirror, and left side hood prop rod,but I have no idea other than the tailgate thing to tell how early my truck is.
Thanks,
Chris

Your specific VIN #...
...may, or may not be helpful in this regard, *if* a helpful Mazda employee can be found... Me, unfortunately, I don't know...

Production numbers
The serial number should tell you something, if its 74 it would be PA136 and a 6 digit number that is the production sequence. 000001 being the oldest, or maybe 001001 depending on where Mazda decided to start the numbering seq. If its 75 its a SPA and number. My 74 is 104366 so maybe its number 4366 of the 56XX sold that year. Just guesses but thats how they numbered the RX7's

Hey.. Bruce's (?) website has a REPU VIN list, you can enter your information to see where your truck falls in the production lineup. If wanted, I think I can change two of the questions to month/year built and color. It would be helpful if someone could list the various factory colors and code numbers. Here's the link..
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/mazdarepurotaryenginepickup/ The left frame has the link to the database.
My only problem with changing the database now is we could lose some info already entered (but only 9 records so far). The database is limited to 10 questions so I'd propose to change two questions. Change question 4 to Owner name and number, and Question 6 could be Year Built/ color code.

VIN info
all good questions ...
Parts book says production started December of 1973
Also says Trucks for USA with auto are PA136 - T
Where is the T.
I just bought a 74 with automatic and the VIN is PA136107205-23
I think. Have not see the truck yet in person ....
Courier VINs are more complicated, e.g.
SGTA LM00004
S = Source company ( Toyo Kogyo ) of course
G = Plant (Hiroshima of course)
TA = Series ... 2 door PU
L = Production year (1971, M-72, N=73)
M = Production month ( M=November, P=April) go figure ...
00004 = numerical sequence of assy.
I looked in parts books, owners' manuals and Technical Data books .... Mazda just does not break this info down very well.

Production Numbers
From the Asylum Collection
VIN# COLOR DATE FIRST SOLD
1.PA136102582 Yellow 04/26/1974
2.PA136111028 Yellow 08/04/1975
3.PA136111120 Red ??/??/1975
4.PA236100164 Yellow ??/??/1977
5.SPA136111914 White ??/??/1976
6.PA236100874 Yellow ??/??/1977
7.PA136107265 Blue ??/??/1974
Notes:
1.Purchased new at Stockton Mazda, has single bead tailgate
4.Original color Yellow now (White)
You can see from the serial numbers I have, either Mazda didn't number consecutively or there were more made in 74 than the reported 5633 units.

i am not sure that there is a clear definative answer on the year and number made
I have a euro rotary engine press information book that i recently got that has some very interesting production numbers in it
Specifically lists "Rotary pickup"
1973 qty 2
1974 qty 14,364
1975 qty 113
1976 qty 632
1977 qty 1,161
for GRAND TOTAL OF 16,272
now this information does not gel with the Auto restorer magazine, nor does it gel with mazda's other production numbers as listed in thier vehicle identification guide which lists the starting vin number for 1975s about spa136-105776 or so, then the parts manual for 1974 lists the starting vin number for 1975s something like spa136-112XXX
I know that there were a couple of repus on the forum that were 75s that that had SPA136 vin numbers prior to 109XXX i need some help from you i want to know the month of production so i can fix my trucks' titles
here are my trucks
PA136 100746 74 BLUE MANUAL WITH WOOD BED
PA136 102589 74 YELLOW MANUAL
PA136 103278 74 BLUE AUTOMATIC
PA136 103749 74 YELLOW MANUAL gsl-se INJECTION
PA136 108888 74?75 GREEN MANUAL
PA136 109881 74?75 WHITE AUTOMATIC
PA136 109985 74?75 WHITE MANUAL
SPA136 111214 75 BLUE MANUAL (SOLD ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO)
SPA136 121457 75 BLUE AUTOMATIC (REAL PIECE OF CRAP BUT 75)
PA136 150371 76 WHITE MANUAL
PA236 100483 77 BLUE MANUAL
PA236 101501 77 BLUE MANUAL
PA236 10xxxx 77 YELLOW MANUAL (DON'T HAVE NUMBER IN BOOK)
please don't assume that all of these are running or road worthy at the moment very few are no i am not interested in selling until i decide which ones will get kept
i did help sell 2 others in the last year they were vins
PA236 100295 77 RED MANUAL
PA136 150253 76 YELLOW MANUAL

That's an impressive array...!
Kind of makes sense that they would perhaps have built the very first ones in late '73...; also sounds plausible that, perhaps, not only were '75's re-badged '74's, but also (some?) '76's....(?)
Also gotta wonder if that production total was accurate, whether the discrepancy with the other number is perhaps due to a number of 'em getting 'officially' disposed of (to the crusher) at a certain point... (?) That might be more likely than there being some warehouse somewhere on the planet with some NOS REPU's hidden away...
