Got her runnin!

Well, I spent last weekend hooking up the misc vac lines, plugging others, putting oil cooler lines on, making the heater hoses fit, and figuring out the crazy electrical system. The truck also does not have the wire that runs down to the starter solonoid... so I had to make a push button thingie to turn that over... But, Sunday afternoon, around 2pm, I dumped a little Mystery Oil down the carby, and she fired right up! I let her run for about 1/2 hour, she was still smoking a little, but the carb isn't tuned at all...

Now, I need to mount the "starter button" somewhere, get the clutch pedal in place, and tune the carb... I'm then going to drive it up to Goldfield, Nevada, to get it registered.. (no smog crap up there)

Woo Hoo!

Glad to hear it! As I'm sure you were too (that rotary hum).

Your post reminds me of my jorney from getting my REPU without an engine, to having the familier, trustworthy, faded red truck in my driveway. I only wanted a red one because nobody that I knew ever had a red REPU (now I'm starting to sound a little like Lance Warren with all this "it had to be red" talk, hehe). I guess I'm extraordinarily lucky to be in a mini REPU comunity here. I know of several people who have rotary trucks in my area. Infact, I saw Ken Durkee (rapid rotary/mazdas and more) towing a car with his rotary tow truck today! I'm glad I could join the rotary elite by getting an REPU and fixing it up.

You know, anybody and his dog can get an RX-7. They are everywhere. But an REPU is quite a find!

Hey Felix, my first posts got botched too. I think I needed to turn my sig off to post properly. I edited my profile and it seems to have fixed it. My sig even works now.

I did some cool REPU stuff today too. I was hooking up a DLIDFIS kit on my friend's REPU today. I got the plate measured and drilled properly. Then I got the wiring almost done. Tomorrow I'm gonna rewire all three coils and see if I can feel how much extra power was added to the engine (right now it feels pretty anemic with PMDFIS, but that is comparing it to my truck, which I think is pretty gutless too hehe).

My REPU has what feels like "tip-in" with DLIDFIS (mounds of low end grunt compared to how it used to be). When I first got my truck and installed my engine, it was the most anemic POS rotary I had ever driven. But as I've become smarter/more learned, I've been able to cheaply increase the power output of my engine in ways that most rotor heads wouldn't have done. Now it feels like I've swapped in a more powerful engine or something. Pretty unbelievable.

Felix, you will fall in love the rotary truck if you get one. By the way, I think Mazdatrix's shop truck is still for sale. It's a '77 (long cab). Get it! I'm sure the famous Dave Lemon will make an exception for the famous Felix Wankel if you want to get his truck. Sorry, I'm just envious of you guys :)

Oh, almost forgot, welcome to the forum!

Edit: I see that it was just a pic that didn't load under your name. Still kinda weird though.
