Ages

Wow, I'm a youngin... at 27

Bought my REPU 2 years ago. It hadn't been registered since 1994, and don't think it had ran since 1993. When I purchased it the PO had installed a 12a in it... Out that went and in went the 91 jspec T2.

What a screamer now! The friday night drags are starting up again, with the warm weather... i'll be posting some times soon :)

howdy

I'm 33.

Bought the 81 Rx7 in 88. Turning it into a racecar. Almost done. Got many tickets in that car. Used to be daily driver.

Bought my 74 REPU Oct 2002. Not registered or smogged but I really enjoy working on it, restoring it, and raizing hell driving it in the neighborhood. Everyone looks at me funny with the loud REPU heel-toe downshifting from 4th-3rd-2nd to a Stop sign.

Bought my 99 Isuzu Amigo V6 Hardtop in July 99, that's the daily driver/tow vehicle. Might try towing with REPU if it can handle hills and has the brakes.

Bye,

You drove from where to Flagstaff in your REPU? I was just thinking how dedicated you are if this was a cross-country trip.

Hi Tom93R1,

The Sevenstock5 rally is basically in my back yard, and to Flagstaff is about 475 miles. I regularly drive up to the Gold Country (Mariposa) to visit friends, and the truck just runs like a champ. Seventy five miles up the Grapevine grade is effortless. I still have the stock distributor and probably slip in points fairly often. Other than that, it's trouble free, one of my better purchases.

Ok, that isnt so bad then. I drove mine from here in Phoenix to SevenStock 5 last year, put over 1000 miles on it over the week I was in the area. To do that regularly I still think takes some dedication, I get pretty worn out after a full day in the REPU.

Odd mix of folks here.. Cool!

Just caught this thread, a bit behind on my end. I'm 27, going on 70 sometimes. Got my first rotary when I was 15, hooked ever since I was 14. Like everyone else, I've owned close to 40 rotaries total, now have the list below. Got my REPU off Klaus less than a year ago, can't wait to restore her! Traveling out West this summer to visit Klaus, Mike, Craig, etc. and pick up my RX-3 Wagon. The bug just gets worse and worse, and I wouldn't change a thing!!

'Cause the world goes round and round, not up and down!

Neal.

I'm 47 and started with a red 4 door RX 2 in 1973. Just got my REPU repainted and want to upload the pics (they're great!) but seems as though uploading has been discontinued.

I'm potentially (finally) able to upload...

...if it's not disabled after all, and if I can get my 'Outlook Express' to function properly, I have a scanner now for the old photos, and a very, very basic (freebie) digicam... Help us, Admin-wan-kenobi -- you're our only hope!

well, this is my first post here.... I'm 26 and i have had my REPU for 3 DAYS! and man, i already have crappy problems. i got it running today after rebuilding the cheapo fuel pump.......and while i had it running i noticed something discouraging. I had the pass. side drum off and i noticed that the axle is BENT! the engine is idling and the axle is there, turning slowly and that biotch is just wobbling up and down ever so slightly. weak. any advice on where to get a non-bent axle?

I'm 28 going on 29 at the end of the year.I don't currently have a REPU but have a deposit on one down in Georgia. It's going to take a few eeks to get up the funds and such, and then have it shipped up to Massachusetts.I have owned a rotary(83 RX-7 LE) since 98.I bought it a few weeks after i got married as a second vehicle. My love affair with RX-7's goes back to my childhood though. My first Matchbox was a black 1st gen RX-7 with gold trim.I still have it to this day.I told my father back then that I would own one as my first car.Well it wasn't my first but it was the first one I really loved.I can't wait to get the REPU.I haven't actually seen one in real life, and of course have never sat in one or driven one but I will be buying one.Does that seem wierd?Well thats my story and I'm stickin to it.

28 and will be 29 at the end of the year. I've had the REPU since early '97. It was abused by its previous owner (it ran out of oil and locked up, so he poured atf in it to try to get it unstuck, lol). I installed an odd rebuild which is still running today, but very gutless due to its '80 RX-7 califiornia EGR intermediate housing with its tiny ports. I had thought seriously about intalling a 20B in it, but I'd rather not cut it up for a bit more torque. Instead, I'll be partial bridgeporting an R5 style 13B (nitrided side plates from a 1st gen) and using a Holley double pumper carb. Similar low end torque to what I have now, but tons more high end power, which is what my engine is currently lacking (it's got a Cosmo reversed runner manifold on it which flows the carb's primaries into the front and rear plate, which are tall '74-'75 style ports, so my low end, where I spend 90% of my driving anyway, is now usable with super weak secondaries as the compromise).

I've been slowly fixing the things the PO did wrong or neglected. It still has sloppy steering.

Greetings, redline...

Are you definite on the bent axle, or is there any chance at all it could be either your rear wheel bearing's totally shot... or merely a missing stack of shims? I mean, a bent axle's not impossible or unheard of, but it'd be cool if it wasn't that extreme... Makes me curious what comes outta the rearend when ya pull the plug to drain it... I'm still driving on a half-ass one held together by the miracle of Amsoil gear lube... thought for sure it'd be dead by now! Just keeps going and going...
Where to get one: Parts REPU. (Better get the rearend complete...) Best, K.

hey Klaus, it turnd out that the previous owner ran up a curb and ruined the idler arm on the front and bent the axle in the back. I have been thinking of putting a rifferent rearend in there. The axle is not horribly bent, so i may look into getting it straightened for the time being (no$$). And as for the amsoil, you're preaching to the choir, my dad was a dealer for 10 years. we still use it in everything. hell, we still get the newsletters...
So now are there any rearends that will fit back there?
I am not afraid of a little fabeication. Any firsthand experience would help my project. thanks an advance fellas'

I know a B2000 can hold a 4.6 out of our REPUs. Maybe it's just the pinion ring gear stuff? Or maybe it's the entire unit? I don't know for sure.

There was a whole thread here somewhere about the Chevy rear end one of the guys swapped into his truck. Nice suspension setup too if I recall correctly. You could talk to him about what he did, he was superhelpful and friendly.

A co-worker of mine has swapped in a LSD, disc-brake rearend out of a modern mustang (sorry don't remember the year, but can find out) into his '89 2600. That's got to be CLOSE to the same width.

Just have to figure out how hard it would be to swap

a) the front hubs to a larger brake, five lug assembly to match the five lug hub of the mustang rear or

b) convert the rear five lug hub to a sixlub hub to match the front.
