There was a FD3S LSD rear end on ebay a couple of days ago. Starting price was 175.00. Auction expired and no one bid at all.

Quick Update
Chris is working on a kit to sell us, complete with all parts, hardware, and instructions. Just take it with your Torsen and REPU rear to a rear end shop and say "Do this."
When it's done I'll let you know.

OK, I took the bull by the horns and borrowed a second gen turbo third member from a RX7 buddy and took the third member out of my REPU and took them both apart this Saturday. I am so sure the RX7 LSD will work I am having a spacer made this week and I will let you know if the whole thing will work.
I will use the REPU ring and pinion but to do so requires the holes in the LSD to be enlarged and longer bolts installed because of a 11mm spacer between the ring gear and the carrier. This appears to be the only modification necessary to put the RX7 LSD in the REPU third member.
Stay tuned for the next installment.

Well I got the spacer machined this week and found the longer bolts. Everything went together just as it should. I now have a REPU third member with a LSD in it sitting on my bench ready to go back in the housing. No grinding, swearing, hammering or any thing out of the ordinary. It is almost as if it was suppoosed to be there in the first place.

Success! It works, the only grinding or modification necessary was to notch the flange of the axle housing to allow the "new" LSD carrier to slip in. When I took the RX7 third member out of it's housing I noticed the same "notch" in their flange from the factory. I kind of had an idea I would have to do it on the REPU too. The spacer is .423" thick and you have to find some 12mm x1.5 x35mm grade 10 bolts. You can grind the third menber or machine the head down on the bolts to get them to clear, I did the latter.
I think this was a lot easier than changing the whole axle, unless you want a different bolt pattern for your wheels.

Way to go!!! Howz it drive? When Chris Greene put the TORSEN in his REPU he said the bolts kept backing out of the ring gear. I'm thinking blue loctite.
Spec Miata racers use red loctite and they still back out!

What did the factory use...
...on the Torsen's bolts, originally, to keep 'em in place? Or, why is the modded REPU setup more prone to 'em backing out?
(Congratulations on your success! Hope she holds together...)

Chris's Torsen is behind a 450whp turbochared 13b and gets autocrossed hard.

I haven't driven it yet as the motor isn't in the truck yet. That is the next step in the project. I will let you know as soon as I have driven it.
This truck is to be a rally truck and it looks like the first event will be Rim of the World in May. I used to run a Jeep Comanche pick up and have won that event in my class several times.

Spacer Pics
Do you have pics of this spacer, or other dimensions?
A drawing of the whole assembly would be good, or pics of the whole thing spread out on the ground would be better ;)
Thanks!!

When you take your pictures can you grab one of the notch you grinded to slip in the carrier. I'll probably be getting a LSD new. I don't have access to a 2nd gen rx-7 3rd member to compare mine to. Thanks.

No, I am sad to say! It seems everything takes longer than you estimate. I should have the engine and trans back in the truck this weekend though.
I was going to go to Rim any way but with the price of gas now I think I will stay in Prescott and work on the REPU.

Oh man, I feel silly with my rear end project now. This sounds easier and stronger.
I also don't like the drums though and the 6 bolt wheel pattern is terrible. IMO the LSD is only part of the problem when it comes to REPU rear ends.
____________
I'd buy that for a dollar!
