Front Brakes

OK, So I was tired of the unvented disc brakes on the front as well as the difficulty of replacing the pads. So I did a little research, the 86-93 b2200 has vented brakes and is easy to obtain. Only problems are (1) the steering is front steer instead of rear steer, hence move the right to the left and left to the right. Calipers will be in the front but i don't think that will be a problem. (2) the brake lines are a different thread pitch, so you have to get an adapter, RE-Speed sells them. (3) steering again, you need to use your brackets that bolt to the spindles to keep the correct steering geometry.

Other than those small issues it works good, easy to obtain and maintain, as well as better selection of rotors and pads.

Hope this helps someone that might need it. If anyone has any questions, I'll be glad to help any way I can

What parts did you off the donor B2200? Just the spindles and brakes?

It sounds like he just popped the ball joints loose and took the whole spindle with everything on it. Then you just change the steering brakets.

Am I right?

I have been reading this thread with some interest. The 86-93 B2200 spindle/hub will bolt right onto a Rotary pickup, the only mod is using the stock steering arm and using a brake line adapter? Because if true, then there are cross drilled rotors for the 86-93 trucks and there are 2" drop spindles as well to keep stock suspension geometry yet lower the car. I would love to see a picture of this modification if someone has done it because I might buy the drop spindles then.

Thanks,

I finally found a self service yard with several B2200s, and got a pair of hubs this weekend. I'm looking forward to getting them installed on the truck. First gotta make sure they fit alright with my Volks.

So....I just test fit my B2200 spindles on my REPU. I wasn't happy with the way the lower ball joint interfaced with the B2200 spindle.

The B2200 hole is way bigger, and the taper doesn't even come close to fitting the way it should. Not happy with it since it is a big safety item, I'm afraid over time it will waller around and cause a big problem eventually.

Wonder if B2200 ball joints would be an option?

I thought about that.

Looked at the pictures of 'em on RockAuto and it was a definite no-go for the lower. REPU lower mounts with 3 bolts, the B2200 joint mounts with 4 bolts.

The upper has a slim chance of working...they both attach with 3 bolts.

Not sure these would work but had to throw out the following ideas.

Four things:

1. Looking at the lower ball joints, could you just drill two holes for the B2200 Ball joints.

2. Is it possible to replace the stock lower control arm with the B2200 lower control arm.

3. Now, to throw another wrench in the mix, how hard would it be to put the whole B2200 rear end with the disk brakes intact,

4. and is it easier to put a LSD in the B2200 rear end.

Any updates to see if the b2200 control arm works?

Doesn't say anything about the control arms.

""I had a buddy that did put later model B series vented rotors on his REPU. He swapped the entire spindle/brake assembly to his REPU. He did have to mount the right sppindle on the left side, and vice-versa. He said it stopped great, and drove fine, but I wonder about the steering geometry of such a swap. I'd think it might do funny things to bump steer, roll steer and Ackerman.
