I've been through the whole main harness on my '77. On my truck it was yellow w/ white stripe. It started at one of the coils, went down to the emissions "computer" then up to the round connector that goes into the back of the cluster. The details as to color and stops along the way may vary since you have a '76, but at the very least it should be present at both the round cluster connector and one of the coils.

Do you have the wiring diagrams and the shop manual for your truck? The shop manual has the pinout for the round cluster connector, and from there you should be able to figure out what pin to connect to the (-) terminal of one of the coils to get a signal into the tach.

Yes, the silver disc thing hanging off the bottom of the cluster is the rev buzzer.

This should help you as far as posting images goes:

I don't mean to brag or anything, but the wiring on my truck was a WAAAAAY bigger mess before I cleaned it up. LOL

SO...I just had a look at the 1976 wiring diagrams, and I think I can help you.

Somebody put an electronic distributor on there, and didn't bother fixing the tach wire. Probably because people are simply baffled when it comes to electrical work on vehicles. I should open up a shop doing auto electric work....I find it both easy and amusing, actually.

See all those relays on the fender, forward of the coils? One of those should be the retard relay (seriously, that's what Mazda calls it). It should have a 4 pin connector, and in that 4 pin connector, there should be a terminal that has a green wire with an orange stripe. Pull your cluster out, and you should find the same green/orange wire in the round connector that goes into the back of the cluster.

At this point, if I were you, I would do a continuity test between the retard relay green/orange wire and this wire in the cluster connector to make sure it hasn't been screwed around with and that you have the correct wire.

If the continuity checks out OK, you need to connect that wire to the negative terminal of either of your coils, and you should be set.

You can get brake light lenses from Mazda, but not the trim rings.
