My brakes are not really at their best right now. When I first hit them the pedal goes almost to the floor, if I let off and push again the bressure builds and if I pump a couple more times they feel really good. Is this a symptom of a brake booster going out? I bled out all the old fluid and replaced it a couple months ago, havent had to add any since so I dont think I have any fluid leaks. What else should I look at?
thanks,
Tom
It doesn't sound like a booster to me. You've got air in the system is what it sounds like. Check your wheel cylinders for a leak or even your hoses. If not then I'd say your master cylinder has an air pocket.
If it has enough of an air pocket you may want to try to bench bleed the cylinder itself.
I am not 100%% sure of your paticular problem but it doesn't sound like a booster.
Is it showing any of these problems at all?
Hard pedal. With engine assistance like when you move the truck while not under power. Rolling it down a hill for instance.
Rough idle. If the booster has hole in its diaphram you will have a massive air leak and the truck will run erratic.
This weekend I will try to replace all the fluid and make certain there is no air in it. Maybe pull the master cylinder and check it out. You are probably right that it isnt the booster because I'm not seeing any of the other problems (except rough idle but that is a timing/mixture problem in my case). Hmm, I wonder if I didnt get all of the air out of the calipers when I rebuilt them. Crap, I bet that is what happened. thanks
