I may have done a bad thing and need your help. I disassembled my "77 Hitachi carb and soaked it in carb cleaner.
I was very careful to mark the locations of all the jets, except I didn't catch the exact locations of the secondary and primary emulsion tubes.
Turns out these tubes are both the same length, and fit equally well in either the primary or secondary wells.
One set of tubes has three tiny holes toward the bottom; the other set has tiny holes all along its length.
So which one is the primary, and which is the secondary?
Thanks Much,

I take it the blown-up view on the carb rebuild paperwork doesn't tell? This is a prime opportunity for all of us to understand the carb. situation better--if someone who knows would step up and explain the whole emulsion tube business to the rest of us...Please? I've heard varying reports on modifications to these tubes. I'd love to know more.
While im not familiar with your carb from what i know aabout the emulsion tubes the secondary ones are the ones with multiple holes while the primary ones have the three holes. What the tubes do is lean out the mixture as the rpm rises/fuel consumption increases. The holes that the tubes fit in are filled with fuel at idle and as the throttle blades open/ you go faster, the fuel level dropes to uncover the holes progresivly. This leans out the mixture. thats just a basic understanding of the emulsion tubes. On one of my carbes i enlarged the main air bleed (this is for a rx7 nikki carb, im not sure exactly how yours is set up) a bit and added a couple holes to the top of the emulsion tubes.
