Did seabass44 ever get an answer...

...to his questions posted on xp882's message board? I figured I'd move the conversation to this BB because it is more "read" so there is a chance more people will see it.

Heh, I never got those parts powdercoated, but my brakes work pretty good now. They're not spongy, but do require more pedal presure than I'd like. I think my rear brakes need adjusting.

Anyway, I have a car 5 speed in my REPU. It is from a '79 SA. I had to slot all the holes in my crossmember and I also think I needed to drill two new holes in my tranny mount 10mm further rearward(forward). The stick shift lines up properly, as does the starter and driveshaft. I did, however, have to grind some of the aluminum away from where the molded halves of the bellhousing were formed where the mount bolts up. No biggie.

I changed the seals before installation, and installed a new pilot bearing and seal (probably unecessary but oh well). I needed to get a new throwout bearing for the '79 tranny because the REPU style is different.

This tranny makes lots of bearing noise whenever the clutch pedal is up in neutral. It feels tired/worn out when cold, but gets better when warm. The synchros are still good, for the most part, but still feel "chunky" when shifting 1-2 and 2-3. The only gear I can slam (powershift) is 4th haha! 5th is kinda weird.

The gears of these trannies aren't as strong as the ribcase trannies, but the synchros are better. You know, you can grind the gears of the ribcase trannies all day and they'll take it, but I'm not sure about SA trannies. Apearantly the FB trannies with the remote shifter have better internals. You need to figure out how to shorten the remote shifter in order to fit it in the older chassis'. But, of course the TII trannies are the strongest to consider using, but they are'nt a bolt in.

About the 12A oil cooler, it will work, but it has one less row of fins compared to the REPU ones. The mounts may also be different.
