Ignition switch for 76 repu
Does anyone know how I can obtain a working ignition switch for a 76 repu? I need it from the 3 plugs up to the key switch. Or is there a way to make the truck start and stay running without it? Any suggestions?

Craig's the man on that sort of info, just be careful about dealership markup. They wanted to charge me $145 here in Orlando. Naples (Florida) was over $200. They thing everything is made of gold down there.

That's crazy spendy!!!
Not that it wouldn't be worth it, for a NOS mazda part, but still... Ouch! Yes, it is possible to bypass your entire ignition cylinder very easily... or, it might still be possible to make yours work by squirting in a small blast of 'Cramoline DeOx-it' type contact cleaner... Also noteworthy if on a budget: Early KIA sportages used an identical ignition cylinder (!)...only the key doesn't look quite right... And what about the Ford courier unit? There must be a cheaper way...(though not likely better).

Thanks for all the feedback...I called the Mazda dealer in Atlanta yesterday and they said they would order it, but that it may not be available. They also were honest about the price, they said it would be $101. Thanks again all...

If you don't mind and sorry for my inexperience, but how would I bypass the ignition cylinder?

ok it's all clear now...I knew you were the one that gave me the part number, but I was confused when you said it was coming. The guy at the Mazda dealer in Atlanta said he would let me know when it came in and I thought this is too weird that you were the same guy I talked to at Mazda. Anyway, take care.

ignition switch
I own a 1976 Repu. I can remove the key from the ignition and it remains on. I move the cable harness under the steering column and the engine is shut off. Sometime while driving and I hit a bump or pothole the engine is shutdown. Any ideas? Has this happened to anyone before? Any suggestions for fixing this?

Check to see if a connector has backed out of the assembly and making end contact only. That would do it, and I have seen this on an RX3, so I know the connector can do this. Mine shut off the coil resistor bypass circuit, and the car would not start with the starter, but fired up when pushed. Very hard to find....About drove me crazy for a week!

Ah, the 'joys' of aging wiring!
Could also be a break in the wire within the insulation... tho perhaps not as likely as a loose/corroded connection. The key coming out with the motor running is not uncommon... I wouldn't worry too much about that part.
...nothing like having to do the 'wiggle test' on various bits of wiring to 'cure' 'mystery' electrical issues...

I had the same problem of the engine shutting off when I hit a bump. I found that the wires behind the passenger seat going out to the battery had corroded. Some new wires and some wire cleaner spray fixed it...
